Pick up and arrival
Pick up:
We will pick you up with our boat in the city Puerto Maldonado. It is also possible to pick you up at the airport for an extra fee (10US$). It takes 1 hour to get to the station. We have some fixed days with a fixed time schedule that we are in the city. To avoid spending more boat trips, please try to arrive on Wednesday or Sunday (before 2 pm) and leave on Wednesday or Saturday (after 9-10 am). Try to book a flight/bus that consider our time schedule, so we don’t consume too much fossil fuel.
  • The boat departs the city of Puerto Maldonado to Kawsay every  Wednesday and Sunday at 15:00. It is recommended to arrive in the city one day before or  before 14:30 of the same day.
  • The boats return and arrived to the city of Puerto Maldonado every Wednesday and Saturday 9:00 am. It is recommended to buy your flights or bus tickets after this time or days later.
  • Extra boats will only be available in case of emergency or when needed

Arrival:
Once you arrived, we introduce you to the people of the station and our way of living and working. After that you can decide to join to an activity or to rest. The only thing you have to do now is enjoy living and with us in a beautiful part of the world.

Climate
The driest and the hottest season of the year is from May until October. In this part of the year the trails are not that muddy and there are not that much mosquitos but in general it is hotter and there are more sand flies. The rainy season is November to April. It is in general cooler but there will be more mosquitos and the forest will be muddier with swamps. In general, the dry season is more popular but both seasons can be considered. Both seasons have their charms.

Also it is important to note that between April and August there is few days (2-5 per month) of cold period where the temperature can go down between 9-13°C, if you come during this month’s better bring some clothes/change for the cold.

Sharing is caring
We suggest you to bring something traditional or typical (cheese, beer, wine, chocolate, …) from your country to share with students and other visitors present at the station. It brings people together and it is nice for everybody to try specialties from other countries. This is of course not an obligation, feel free to bring something.
