Kawsay Biological station
We are an organization based in the city of Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios - Peru. We aim to preserve our forest through activities compatible with conservation such as ecotourism, education and research. We also want to make science available to everyone. You can come as a volunteer, intern, researcher or tourist and live this experience, support the conservation programas and research activities of our biological station. |

Location
We are working in a conservation concession area of approximately 200ha designated for conservation by the Peruvian government. The concession is located in the buffer zone of the Tambopata National Reserve, bordering the Madre de Dios River.
We are located at 1 hour by boat of the city Puerto Maldonado, Peru. We are situated at the right margin, downstream of the river Madre de Dios.

The station and facilities
In our station we use green energy (solar energy) according to minimalize our impact on the environment. In addition, we prepare food in a sustainable way. We try to buy only locally produced vegetables and fruits and we produce some on our own land. The main house is a common area where we have a well-equipped kitchen, a dinning room, a library, a study area, a laundry room, outside showers and toilets, hammock areas (also huge hammock near by the river) and two new bungalows with private bathrooms.
